A digital front door for Durham's collaboration infrastructure
A public website and organic channel strategy for Durham's collaboration hub, built so a first-time visitor can understand what the space is and how to be part of it.
Community infrastructure. isonew delivered the public website and the organic channel strategy for ReCity Network, founded by KJ Hill.
Service line: Custom Software Development
Context
What the operation looked like
ReCity Network convenes nonprofits, social enterprises and community leaders in Durham around shared space and shared work. The organization's story travelled well in person and poorly online. A visitor arriving from a search or a social post could not quickly tell whether ReCity was a coworking space, a network, a program or all three.
Constraint
The site had to serve several audiences at once, prospective members, partners, funders and neighbours, without collapsing into a generic nonprofit brochure. It also had to be maintainable by a small team with no engineer on staff.
Decisions
What was decided, and why
- 01
Lead with the question a first-time visitor is actually asking, what is this place and can I be part of it, rather than with organizational history.
- 02
Separate the membership path from the partnership path early, because those two visitors need different next steps.
- 03
Build the organic channel strategy around the work already happening in the building, so publishing does not depend on inventing content.
- 04
Hand over a structure the ReCity team can extend without engineering support.

Working with Ronan on how to use AI to improve our website, attract more potential members and people interested in events. It has been a fantastic process.
Current state

Anything further is ReCity's call. isonew remains available for structural work if the site outgrows its current shape.
